Similar to the youth representatives in the other communities who have begun to survey their natural diversity, the youths at Salawa have also undertaken to do the same. “Ueneung”, Salawa’s youth representative, recounted stories about medicinal trees with stamina building qualities, helping the villagers on multiple-day forest treks and labor over long nights. He invited youth representatives from the other villages as well as the project team to join them in surveying the wildlife species around Salawa village, where huge trees of many varieties grow on the mountains to the south of the village all the way to the Salawa River. This area teeming with wildlife diversity from mountaintop to below water merits study and conservation efforts by the community members.
